Owl have one of those

I wanted to get the whole quilt in there, so here it is, with moon. I used the new line of fabric by Amy Butler's husband, I forget what it is called, for the background. It is about 28" x 50".

Walter

Who watches this show? It is so good or bad in a good way, if you know what I mean. The writing, the direction, everything about it, even its grittiness, is sooooooooooo goooooood. If you don't know, this is the character Walter White from the AMC show Breaking Bad.  Everyone in my family is totally into it, but it is especially fun to watch with my son who is a super fan. But we all are, really.

Here is a wall quilt I meant to share before. I actually got the idea for design from a coffee cup that one of my students gave me.  I'll try to post the cup too, because it really looks almost exactly the same. Everytime I drank out of it I was thinking....this would make a cool quilt.

Quilt Around the World

This quilt is the result of participating in a block exchange with people that live all around the world. Each person got to request what kind of block they wanted and I chose improvisational houses. So here they came over a period of a few months and I thought, "How can I make this more interesting and more cohesive?" First, I dip dyed all the blocks in lime green dye along with some of my own printed fabric. After it was pieced together I started fusing little fences on the "streets". Then I started stamping fabric paint flower shapes here and there. Next I used inks to add shading  on the houses.

Since I had recently bought my new sewing machine I decided to quilt the houses using every decorative stitch I could use. I quilted all over the whole project. It was very freeing to make this.  I didn't care that much, so I just tried anything and went for it. I really like how it turned out. I never even added a binding.  I just zigzagged a couple of times around the edge and that was it!
Someone made me a lollipop tree, so I added some more.
 This was so much fun!

Secret ingredients

I forgot that I was going to explain the "secret ingredients"  in these projects. This is a collage made from paper towels that I saved from dyeing fabric.  I used them to mop up spills etc. and I always saved them, ironed them, and stacked them in a drawer. I started tearing them up and gluing them onto some upholstery samples.  Then I stamped them with some shapes and added some oil pastel and water color crayons. Finally I quilted them. Now what do I do with them?
This one actually has more color on it then is shown here. I like them a lot. There is so much texture.

Magic bubbles...on another planet...in another atmosphere.

Future Project

I love lime green, ochre and dark red together. I may make something out of this, but I would like to avoid it looking too post modern Christmas holidayish. I don't know how that is going to happen, but we'll see. I think the reds need to be much darker, more like the plaid in the foreground.

Finished!

Complete and in the mail! A little lap quilt for a special someone who is far away from their home. It is about 60x65".  I used some hand dyes and some commercial  prints.
Detail (sorry about the lack of focus)
This is not one of our cats. But it seems to have made itself quite at home on my outdoor table. It looks quite relaxed, don't you think?
He is sure cute. Where is his home? It has been hot here in So Cal. It was 110 degrees today and school starts tomorrow. Yikes

One More Quilt

This is for a special person that I cannot mention yet.  Here I am pinning it up. It is kind  of a little quilt,  just big enough to curl up in on the couch. It is about 60"x65".  Wow, it is really hot today. I went out about 9:00 in the morning, in mostly shade, and I was dripping after just a few minutes. It was maybe 108 degrees today. When it got that hot, I was inside, cool as a cucumber, quilting and watching Misery. Remember that movie? Whew!

In the Garden

This is entirely made of Gelli prints that I made some time ago (except the binding). When I first got my Gelli plate I made all these, then tried to put them together into one piece. Some of the pieces were drawn on my plate and printed and then I cut them out and appliqued them on top.

I really like watercolor crayons now too. So I went back over some of the areas with the crayons, like the top of the strawberries and tomatoes, I added green.

I don't know what these are, but they are growing in THIS  garden.

 Detail of stitching

Most of my fabric is finally stored in here. Wow, what a lot of work. It is so nice to have easy access to all this fabric, it is fantastic!

There's "working" and WORKING!

This is the kind of "work" I would like to be doing today. I am working on another project using recycled materials, paint, watercolor crayons, oil pastels, and what else?

But I have spent the entire day sorting, folding, and arranging fabric into these wire baskets. I don't think this will hold all my fabric (in fact I know it won't), but they are actually doing a pretty good job of storing a lot of my stash.
 Polka dots
Polka dots with white. Okay, I have too much fabric.
It has been good to go through everything and see what I actually own. There are things I've forgotten about and stuff I look at and say "Huh?". Oh well, it must have been on sale. I am not kidding when I say I have been folding all day and haven't even filled half of these drawers.
Does anyone know why I can only enlarge 2-3 pictures and then blogger won't let me do anymore? It used to enlarge all of them, but the last few posts it won't let me enlarge all the photos.  ???
