THE 29TH FACE!

#29

Prismacolor pencils

Thank you to everyone who made such kind comments throughout this challenge. I feel like I really learned how to do a variety of facial features at least a little bit differently than I had been doing them in the past. I vow to continue to practice.
Back to gelli printing and painting.

The Queen
I got a bunch of new Prismacolor pencils this week (along with a bunch of other art supplies..I can't stop) and one of them is called a "clear blender" and it's great for blending shaded areas. I am tired of hair, I mean drawing hair, so I left it white.

Now I am wondering.... this was called 29 Faces, but there are not 29 days in February this year. So does #29 go on the first of March? Whatever... this was fun but I am glad it's over.

Stabilo pencil, watercolors

29 Faces

#26
I finally got a Stabilo pencil, albeit it is kind of like a crayon: fat, short, stubby with a big tip, but it is pretty amazing because they can write on ANYTHING and they are water soluble. I made this face with the Stabilo, a black one and a white one. I am one face behind and I need to catch up. Maybe this will be a double post ..... later tonight. Whew, its almost over.

This is the final piece from Between Speech and Silence. I watched the videos again and repainted some sections then I added the beeswax (which smells so good when you're applying it). I like this one a lot better.

Between Speech and Silence

These are the final two paintings from the class, Between Speech and Silence with instructor/artist Diane Culhane.  I learned a lot about painting although I don't think you can tell from these two pictures. The one on the right has a layer of beeswax on top. In person it gives it a soft translucent finish. I plan on finishing the one on the left the same way so I can hang them together or at least they will look the same.
Acrylic, glazing medium, collage, beeswax

This is a close up of scraffitto, scratching into the paint while it is wet.
I definitely will keep practicing.

Acrylic background, oil pastels for the drawing.

It was really fun to use different media for a change. What I really love is Blick's Matt Varnish (water soluble). When applied it gives a very smooth thin leathery protective layer to your art.

Something different

I am taking an online class called Between Speech and Silence by Diane Culhane.
She is a wonderful artist and I absolutely love her paintings. These are some samples from the second lesson which involves collage, marker, and gesso. The only magazine I had available was a Yoga Catalog and an advertisement for See's Candies (of all things!!) so the colors are somewhat coordinated but I was looking for pictures of texture.

Here is the collage..........................and here it is outlined with marker.

It has been gessoed over and tomorrow we paint it.
There is another one like this I'll show later on after I see where we are going with this.

I am loving painting and using all my stencils. Today I used my oil pastels to make a face, which I'll post tomorrow.
I love mixed media, I just wish I could keep my media straight, like what works on what and what doesn't work. It can be confusing, there are just many options these days.

You've probably noticed some of my faces have interesting backgrounds. I can spend days working on them. Yum.

Not much sewing going on right now. Soon though.

New Baby and something besides faces!

A friend at school has a new granddaughter as of yesterday so sweater gifting was in order.

I did a little embroidered flower on the back.
 Matching (sort of) booties
And a family of owls to play with when she gets older.
Best wishes to the new mother.
